Acting on Observation

Bob Bassett

“Acting truthfully under imaginary circumstances” is the battle cry Jeff McCracken learned from legendary acting teachers Sanford Meisner, Stella Adler, Harold Clurman, Jack Garfein, William Alderson, and Larry Moss. McCracken feels honored and privileged to be passing on this important tradition to the next generation of artists.

McCracken’s wide breadth of experience includes co-producing the Academy Award- nominated film Quiz Show and executive producing the Sundance Film Audience Award Winner Pastime, as well as directing more than seventy episodes of television and starring in feature films, television, Broadway, off-Broadway, and regional theater. His acting experience includes work for the acclaimed Circle Repertory Company in New York City where he originated roles in new works by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwrights.

McCracken intimately understands the importance of script and character analysis as well as the demands of the director/writer/actor’s creative process required to craft believable and authentic performances regardless of genre, style, or format. He is dedicated to helping the filmmaker assemble those tools that will create fully realized characters that are the heart and soul of any story.

“I’m committed to empowering the artist’s storytelling abilities,” he says, “by demanding that they develop the same acute powers of observation as the animals in the forest – like their life depends on it.”
