Conservatory of Motion Pictures Supplemental Application for Fall 2010

Admission to the program is highly competitive, designed only for qualified applicants with a clear passion and demonstrable talent for visual storytelling.

All applicants must submit:

  • A completed Chapman University and Dodge College Supplemental application form
  • A personal statement describing why you want to go to film school
  • A creative/scholarly portfolio list
  • A series of creative/scholarly writing assignments including:
    • A dramatic scene/sample of scholarly writing
    • A description of a transformational moment of his/her life (maximum two pages)
    • A description of his/her favorite film (maximum two pages)
  • Directing and Screenwriting programs are also required to submit either a Short Film Screenplay or a Feature Length Screenplay

MFA applicants will have to indicate their intended specialization (first and second choice):  Director, Cinematographer, Producer, Screenwriter, Editor, Production Designer and Sound Designer, or joint MBA/MFA in Film and Television Producing.

All applicants subsequently may have to submit support material according to their indicated specialization.  Supporting material will be reviewed, followed by a personal interview or if not possible, a telephone interview with the finalists.

For those MFA Film Production applicants students who can demonstrate mastery of fundamental filmmaking skills through a portfolio of produced work or an undergraduate degree in film production, we will consider waiving the first year of fundamentals and send you directly into a two-year, production-driven Conservatory.
