    ***Special screening of The Goonies with director Richard Donner:
    On Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 9:00am legendary director Richard Donner (Superman, Lethal Weapon) will be coming to Tom Mankiewicz’ class to screen the popular 80’s cult film The Goonies. The screening will be followed by a Q&A. Everybody welcome. No tickets required. See you in the Folino!

    ***Sneak Preview Screening of Universal feature The Fourth Kind directed by Chapman alum November 5
    Chapman University is proud to present a sneak preview of Universal Pictures new feature THE FOURTH KIND this Thursday, November 5, beginning at 8PM in the Folino Theater. The Fourth Kind is a provocative thriller following psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler (played by Milla Jovovich) as she unwittingly discovers some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented. The film is co-written and directed by Chapman alum Olatunde Osunsanmi (MFA/Film Prod. ’99) and co-written and produced by Terry Lee Robbins (MFA/Producing ’99). The screening is free but tickets are required. Students, faculty and staff can pick up tickets starting today at 10AM from the front office (room 309) or in Argyros Forum room 302. Only one ticket per person. No phone calls to reserve tickets will be accepted. Any extra tickets will be made available to alumni on Wednesday morning. Tickets must be picked up in person (cannot reserve over the phone) and only one ticket per person will be permitted.

    ***Get Real World Experience working at a Film Festival at Dodge:
    Dodge College is hosting the Pusan West Film Festival November 20-22. There will be 7 Korean directors screening their work and 12 exciting Korean films being showcased. We are looking for volunteers who can help out all three days from 10am to 10pm. Even if you can only work part of the days, we would love your help. Food will be provided and you get a free t-shirt!     ***Now taking applications for DESTINATION AFRICA:
    If you'd like to apply for Dodge College's renowned Destination: Africa, International Documentary scholarship program, now is your chance! The application period begins this week and ends on Monday November 16 at 5 p.m. Send a note to Professor Jeff Swimmer at swimmer@chapman.edu, listing the following: Name, Year In School/Major, GPA, why you would like to be considered for this program, and what specific strengths and skills you will bring to the program. All undergraduates (except for graduating seniors) and graduate students are welcome to apply for this highly popular endeavor, now in its 3rd year after successful trips to Cambodia and Cameroon. This year's journey will take students on an all-expenses paid journey to Africa in the first 2 weeks of June, 2010. Admitted students must take Documentary Pre-Production in Spring 2010; Production is in Summer, and Post-Production takes place in Fall 2010. Students will create short documentaries about NGOs (non-governmental organizations) doing innovative and important work in the field, and then give those films to the participating NGOs to use for their benefit as they wish.

    Former White House Assistant Press Secretary Reed Dickens will speak to PRSSA Tuesday, November 3 at 7 PM in MKS 132. Dickens is CEO and founder of Outside Eyes and a regular contributor to CNN’s Larry King Live, an adjunct professor at Chapman University, a partner in a private equity group, and a frequent speaker at corporate events all over the country.     ***Free Visit to the American Film Market in Santa Monica!
    Join fellow Chapman students for a visit to AFM to learn about the worldwide licensing of films and television programs and how a film market operates. IFTA will provide each student with a day badge, a guided tour, and access to a screening, all completely free of charge! The visit will be on Tuesday, November 10, at 2 pm. Carpools will be coordinated to leave Chapman around 12:30. Space for this unique opportunity is extremely limited.     *Win $300 in the Student Diplomat Video Contest:
    The Student Diplomat Video Contest is hosted by NAFSA: Association of International Educators and Abroad View the global education magazine for students. We all know the great stories students have to tell from their study abroad experiences. With the 2009 Student Diplomat Video Contest, students across the country have a chance to become the next Student Diplomat—and win $300—just by sharing a story about their time abroad. The contest is open to U.S. undergraduate students who are currently studying abroad or have recently returned from a study abroad experience. Videos should focus on how their experiences have helped to advance global understanding and shaped them as global citizens.     * Vado HD Pocket Cam Contest:
    Creative Lab challenges the next generation of filmmaking talent to make a film with the Vado HD Pocket Cam to win cash, prizes and industry internships. See Derek Horne in Rm#333 to check out a camera. Once you check out the camera, you must sign up to enter the contest and receive exclusive contest updates at www.vadofilmcontest.com The films can be narrative, documentary, or any other creative format but must be shot exclusively on the Vado HD Pocket Cam and be under 5 minutes. You may however record the audio separately and then mix that with the video footage during editing. The Vado HD Pocket Cam is PC and Mac compatible. You can plug it right into your computer via USB. The short videos are due by December 4 at Midnight. You can submit through YouTube and promote the videos via Facebook. There is an audience award in addition to juried awards.     *Call for Papers at Regional Pop Culture Conference:
    The 2010 SW/TX PCA/ACA Conference will be held in Albuquerque, New
    Mexico at the Hyatt Regency downtown. Proposals are now being accepted for review for the Film (General) Area. 20-minute presentations ranging from critical essays to analyses employing recognized research methodologies are sought. Deadline for submissions is December 15, 2009. Listed below are some suggestions for possible individual presentations, but topics not included here are also welcome. The black and white aesthetic: pre-1960s or post-1960s ; Ideological themes in contemporary films ; The film flashback: weak script device or important narrative tool? ; Subtext no more: special effects as the dominant message in contemporary films Horror remakes ; OR, consider a contribution to this year's conference theme: Science Fiction and Fantasy Films as Popular Culture.     The Doctors, a spin-off of The Dr. Phil Show, is currently seeking up to 20 super interns to assist for the Winter 2010 semester. We offer several areas of interest and the ability to learn and grow with an established production company. Areas of Specialty:
    On-set taping: Control Room, Talent/Guest Coordination, Audience Coordination, Wardrobe. Interns work primarily on set & must be available Thurs, & Fri from 7am to 4pm.; Researcher/PA: Assigned to 1 or more of 10 production teams to assist with guests, bookings & topic research. Including phone interviews, hot topics, book & magazine research.     Principato Young Entertainment is looking for a specialized intern for one of their Partners.
