Club takes Second Place
in District Competition:
Led by account directors Taylor Wilson and Mike Alfaro, members of Chapman
Ad Club took second place in the National Student Advertising Competition’s
District 15 Finals, April 25, at Cal State Fullerton, just two-tenths of a point
behind USC. Chapman was also recognized for Best Overall Positioning and its
campaign plan was ranked Number One in the district.
The Chapman campaign Your Words Have a Lot to Say provided the client
was AOL’s instant messaging service AIM with in-depth consumer research; strategic
positioning and brand architecture; comprehensive non-traditional media plan;
grandiose stunts and promotions; and a full-blown publicity strategy. The creative
was driven by the big idea: We are words! Congratulations to all the
team members and advisor Cory O’Connor for this outstanding performance.

American Independent Cinema
A critical study of the American Independent Cinema:
its tendencies, variations, and contradictions. We will attempt, mostly, to
differentiate the aesthetic and ideological patterns of the Independent sector
vs those of Hollywood Cinema. In doing so, we will have the opportunity to screen
the work of many interesting directors, including: Jim Jarmusch, Darren Aronofsky,
Joel & Ethan Coen, David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino, P.T.
Anderson, Spike Lee, Wayne Wang, Nicole Holofcener,

*Scholarship from Media Action Network for Asian Americans:
MANAA, the Media Action Network for Asian Americans, is pleased to announce
one $1000 scholarship for currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students
interested in pursuing careers as filmmakers and in television production (not
broadcast journalism). Formed in 1992, MANAA is the only organization solely
dedicated to monitoring the media and advocating balanced, sensitive, and positive
depiction and coverage of the Asian American community. Scholarship recipients
will be selected on the basis of their academic and personal merit, desire to
uplift the image of Asian Americans in film and television as demonstrated in
their essay, potential as demonstrated in their work sample, and financial need.
The deadline for submission is Friday, May 9, 2008. Students must submit the
following materials: A copy of all official transcripts; A copy of completed
financial aid documents; Two letters of recommendation, one that evaluates academic
and artistic aptitude and another that speaks to the student’s interest and
involvement in the community; A double-spaced essay consisting of no more than
1,000 words answering the following questions: Where do you see yourself ten
years from now? What accomplishments and strides will you hope to have made
in your career in the film and television industry? How will you have worked
to advance more positive images of Asian Americans in the mainstream media?

*Debra Hill Fellowship for producing students:
The PGA (Producers Guild of America) awards the Debra Hill
Fellowship to a single individual who will be graduating in 2008, majoring in
Producing. In order to be considered for the Hill Fellowship of $25,000, applicants
must submit a bio and personal statement (no more than 500 words) outlining
their professional ideals and goals as a producer. Finalists for the Fellowship
will be contacted to arrange a personal interview with members of the Debra
Hill Fellowship Committee. The deadline for the receipt of materials is Thursday,
May 22nd. The Fellowship will be presented at the PGA’s General Membership
on the evening of Monday, June 16th, which the recipient is required

*Youtube video contest for Zack Snyder’s new movie Watchmen:
Director Zack Snyder is offering you the opportunity to create "Veidt
Enterprises" TV commercials that could end up in the feature film WATCHMEN,
scheduled to be released in theaters on March 6, 2009. The movie is set in 1985,
so TV commercials should be in 4:3 aspect ratio (so it looks like standard TV,
not widescreen) and they should be either 15, 30 or 60 seconds in length. The
products are all made by "Veidt Enterprises," and you can download
the product logos for your use as well. Make your TV commercial in NTSC standard
definition (720x486) or higher resolution, upload it before June 2, and then
others can vote on your work. The 40 finalists will win signed posters from
Zack Snyder. The top five finalists from user votes will win High-Definition
Canon Vixia HG10 camcorders. Up to 20 of Zack's favorite finalists will win
$1000.00, and have a chance to be included in the WATCHMEN feature film itself.
This contest involves creating a fake commercial for a product from Veidt Enterprises

*Flying Solo TV Pilot Contest for Female Students:
The New York Television Festival (NYTVF) has joined with Signature
Sponsor Procter & Gamble Productions (PGP) to announce an exciting new contest
for female college seniors and recent graduates. The “Flying Solo TV Pilot Contest”
invites young women to audition for the chance to make their lives the subject
of a television pilot produced by PGP. The pilot will be shopped to network
partners of the NYTVF for distribution. These pilots will combine professionally
shot third-person footage of the subject’s life with first-person footage shot
by the subject. The objective is to discover budding female storytellers who
not only lead interesting lives, but also have a unique ability
to capture and present them on video. To be eligible To be eligible for the “Flying Solo” TV Pilot Contest, potential
entrants must be female and must have graduated or be on track to graduate college
during the 2007-2008 academic year. These entrants must shoot and produce an
audition video introducing viewers to several aspects of their lives after graduation.
The audition video must be between two and four minutes in length and must be
shot primarily by the entrant. The video must be submitted online by uploading

I am the owner of a travel advertising agency located in Laguna Beach, “Playground
of the World.” For the last 8 years, we have represented Hotels, Cruise Lines

is a nightly news and interview program broadcast to all of LA and OC. Our
internship offers a fast pace “hands-on” internship in the newsroom and on location
working with talented broadcast professionals. Duties range from writing to

in various administrative tasks and have an opportunity to shadow reporters.
