You’re smart. You’re creative. You’re pretty sure you’ve got what it takes to be a success in film, television, PR, advertising or some other creative field.
Yes, these are probably THE most competitive fields out there. You already know that. What you may not already know is that an undergraduate degree from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts can give you a definite competitive edge as you begin your career in film production, broadcast journalism, acting, screenwriting, public relations/advertising, digital arts and more.
From Day 1, you’ll be encouraged to find your own voice as you develop your expertise and expand your understanding of storytelling in both mainstream Hollywood feature films and television as well as in the corporate and non-profit arenas through advertising and public relations. At the same time, you’ll pursue a broad, liberal arts course of study through Chapman University’s general education requirements that will expand your horizons in ways as yet unknown. Moreover, you’ll have the chance to try your hand at a variety of creative endeavors — in collaboration with friends and faculty or by yourself — through classes, internships and independent projects.
You’ll be mentored by a faculty of real-world professionals who know how things are done from personal experience and are eager to “show you the ropes.” In fact, don’t be surprised if your digital arts instructor asks you to help on one of her projects or your film professor gives you his cell phone number to contact him after hours. After all, these people are your mentors, both inside and outside the classroom, accessible for office hours and phone chats, as Facebook friends or for coffee at the local Starbucks.
And you can’t beat life at Chapman University. A community-rich environment in the heart of Orange County within easy driving distance of the beach, the mountains and the desert, Chapman has something for everyone. The multitude of opportunities for internships, part-time jobs and cultural activities in Orange County and L.A. — not to mention student organizations like Chapman Animators and the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) that are active on campus — enrich your educational experience and connect you to people who can help you throughout your career.
Follow your dreams by undertaking a hands-on education. Learn how the film industry works --the “business of the business” -- from script to screen. Discover the world of corporate PR or life in an advertising agency. Create virtual characters for video games or special effects for feature films. No matter which path you follow, at the end of your four years here, you’ll be in a position to impress the powers that be in your chosen specialty.
