Prime Time TV Club
If you want to meet the movers and shakers of network television, then the Prime Time TV Club is the place for you. Guest speakers have included television legend Stephen Cannell (creator of 40 network or cable series), Peter Casey (co-creator of Frasier and writer/producer of Cheers), Phil Rosenthal (creator of Everybody Loves Raymond) and Lisa Alden (staff writer on the HBO hit Entourage.) The club also hosts an annual “Foot-in-the-Door” night, where recent graduates, now working in the industry, share their up-to-the-minute insider secrets on how to score that all-important first job in television.
Nightcap
Many students come to the TV program and wish to work on the late-night talk show Nightcap, every semester. And you can! You may participate twice for credit in FTV 314 Producing the Variety Show (prerequisites FTV 114, 130), as your duties on the show over your tenure here increase in difficulty and responsibility. After you have taken the class, students are encouraged to join in other semesters and go to writer’s meeting, produce sketch-comedy bits, etc. Students have also produced Nightcap overseas in London, UK for three years in 2004-2006 and in the newly-created FTV 314A/514A Producing the Variety Show International will produce Nightcap in a different foreign locale every year.
