Television and Broadcast Journalism

Undergraduate Program

The B.F.A. in Television and Broadcast Journalism offers students a broad introduction to the storytelling forms of the medium of television, from news to talk shows, from sports broadcasting to entertainment.

With growing student interest in writing and producing for TV series, the Television and Broadcast Journalism degree has been revised to offer more opportunities for students who wish to work in episodic television.

Do you love Grey’s Anatomy or The Office ? Seminar in TV Writing and Television Series Production I and II have been added to the major to offer students the opportunity to learn to write for a comedy or drama series as well as to produce their work.

How did Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” affect programming practices?  How is reality TV shaping the broadcast landscape?  How is the proliferation of channels catering to every interest from pets to golf affecting programming possibilities?

Learn more in The Business of Television and History of Television , where you’ll get a well rounded perspective on how the medium has evolved over time, with particular attention to how new distribution models are affecting programming content and the impact of social, technological and economic trends.

How mobile media are creating new distribution opportunities will be the focus of Byte-Sized TV , in which students will meet the challenge of writing and producing on-going characters and compelling stories that can be distributed via cell phone and other personal access technology.  Be at the forefront of the next wave of television distribution as you create a “mobisode” of your own.
